Linda C. Zawacki Scholarship
The Blue Ridge Democratic Women Committee fund this scholarship in honor and memory of Democratic activist Linda Catherine Zawacki and her legacy of community service, dedication to skills enhancement and continuing education.
Zawacki served 4 years in the Air Force in order to help pay for her college degree. She graduated from California Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mathematics and engineering. After college, she was hired by Martin Marietta in Lompoc, CA, as a software engineer on NASA’s space shuttle program. In 1984, she moved to northern Virginia to work on the company’s FAA contract. While working for Martin Marietta, she was sent to Ottawa in Canada for two years to set up Martin Marietta Canada. She finished her career with Lockheed Martin as a VP and project manager in April of 2008, receiving many awards along the way.
This scholarship will be awarded to a student in a STEM-H program.
The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the Zawacki Scholarship:
- Reside in the College’s service region
- Be enrolled as a full- or part-time student
- Be enrolled in a STEM-H program
- Complete the Foundation scholarship application and the federal student aid application (FAFSA)
- Achieve satisfactory academic progress of 2.5 GPA in the fall semester to receive the spring portion of the award
- The scholarship may be used for tuition, mandatory fees and/or textbooks.
- Answer the question: “Tell the donor a little bit about yourself. How will this scholarship help you? What are your academic goals?”
