Julian B. Marple, Jr. Scholarship

Julian Marple (1944-2022) grew up in Winchester/Frederick County and graduated from James Wood High School in 1962. He studied at (then) Lord Fairfax Community College and earned a Career Studies Certificate in Real Estate Sales in 1976. Mr. Marple worked in the engineering field at Harris Intertype, which was later sold to O’Sullivan Corporation. He later became a full-time Realtor and retired from Prudential Realtors.

In his will, Mr. Marple established a scholarship to support deserving students at the community college who are studying engineering and working hard to achieve their dream of a college education.

The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or other educational materials and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester. To be eligible to receive the award for the spring semester, you must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the fall semester.

The scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must complete a scholarship application
  • Must be a full-time student
  • Enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in General Engineering Technology.
  • Enrolled in courses leading to an Associate of Science in Engineering or related degree
  • Successfully completed at least one EGR cours (EGR 120, 123, 126, or an elective)
  • Must demonstrate academic merit by having and maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Priority given to residents of the City of Winchester and Frederick County
