Dr. Phillip H. Phenix & Gena Tenny Phenix Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2007 by Dr. Morgan Phenix, in honor of his parents, Dr. Philip and Gena Phenix, recognizing their abiding love for education.

Dr. Philip H. Phenix was the Arthur I. Gates Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Education at Teachers College at Columbia University. His fields of study were mathematics, physics, theology, philosophy and education. Mrs. Gena Tenney Phenix was a faculty member at Barnard Columbia from 1935-1943. She was a musician, scholar and spiritual counselor. One of her favorite quotes was Rejoice in the life and work of others.

The Dr. Phillip H. Phenix & Gena Tenny Phenix Endowed Scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters. To be eligible to receive the award for the spring semester, you must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the fall semester.

The scholarship will be awarded to Laurel Ridge students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must complete a scholarship application
  • Must have and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference will be given to a full-time student
  • Preference will be given to first-generation college students
