The Yang Family Health Professions & Education Scholarship

This scholarship is being established to enable qualifying students to achieve their goal of a career in a health profession or education. Four Yang family members began their academic pursuits of these professions in community college, two graduating from Lord Fairfax Community College, now Laurel Ridge Community College.

The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. Satisfactory academic progress must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the second semester. To be eligible to receive the award for the spring semester, you must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the fall semester.

The scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must complete a scholarship application and federal aid application(FAFSA)
  • Must be a full-time or part-time student
  • Must be enrolled in a program of study leading to a career in some facet of health care, OR a student pursuing a program of study leading to a career in education
  • Must demonstrate academic merit by having and maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must write an essay of no more than 500 words on the topic of “What has motivated you to choose this field of study?”
  • Priority given for demonstration of financial need
  • Preference to Winchester City residents
