Ruth Anne Troxell Memorial Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship

The Virginia Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 by the Virginia Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization dedicated to empowering women educators to advance inclusion, educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding.

In 2022, after the passing of one of the chapter’s sisters, Ruth Anne Troxell, the scholarship name was changed to the Ruth Anne Troxell Memorial Alpha Delta Kappa Scholarship to honor the memory of one who embodied the principles of the Alpha Delta Kappa organization through her tireless dedication to the teaching profession, her altruistic endeavors, and her spirit of kindness and joy.

The purposes of the Alpha Delta Kappa organization are:

  • To honor outstanding women educators.
  • To strengthen the education profession through commitment to diversity and inclusion practices that respect and value each person for their unique qualities.
  • To nurture relationships and networking opportunities.
  • To enrich personal and professional development.
  • To support altruistic projects, grants and scholarships with time and resources.

The scholarship award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books and will be divided equally between two semesters. To be eligible to receive the award for the spring semester, you must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the fall semester. Asked to maintain contact with Alpha Rho Chapter for continued support and mentoring as the recipient prepares for a career in education.

The scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Must complete a scholarship application
  • Must be a full-time or part-time student
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average
  • Must have completed 30 credit hours in an Education program
  • Must intend to transfer to a 4-year institution to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Education
