Matthew Harrelson Battle for Life Scholarship Fund
The Matthew Harrelson Battle for Life Scholarship was established in 2010 by Matthew Harrelson. Matt was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma when he was 18 months old. He was in and out of remission until 2007. Six months after going into remission he developed secondary leukemia (acute myeloid leukemia). Matt has had a bone marrow transplant and been through two cycles of chemotherapy. The treatments however did not work and the cancer is back in Matt’s bone marrow. Matt will need to go through another bone marrow transplant to treat the leukemia.
Matt says, “I was planning on going to LFCC but haven’t been able to reach that goal yet. I hope to in the future. I want to establish a scholarship to help those who have a goal like mine but can’t afford it. Especially after cancer treatments people’s wallets tend to be very thin.”
