Edward and Dolores Thompson Scholarship Fund

The Edward and Dolores Thompson Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 in memory of Edward “Tom” and Dolores Thompson. The scholarship is named for the parents of the fourth president of Lord Fairfax Community College, now Laurel Ridge Community College, Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy. Tom and Dolores Thompson always believed in the power of educational attainment and worked hard to make sure that Cheryl and her older brother, Lee Thompson, were able to attend college. Dolores did not even graduate from high school but eventually earned her GED. She then went on to attend Kent State University when she was in her early 40’s and earned her associate degree from KSU. Both Tom and Dolores worked full-time when Cheryl and Lee were young in order to save enough money to make sure their children’s career dreams were able to come true.
