Edward and Anne Wisecarver Endowed Memorial Scholarship Benefiting Nursing Students

The endowed scholarship was established by the Wisecarver family to honor their parents, Anne Duvall and Eddie Wisecarver. Anne Duvall Wisecarver was a nurse for over 45 years, working at Winchester Memorial Hospital, in the offices of Drs. Robert York and B.N. Chambers, and later, at Mt. Weather. She was a lifelong resident of Clarke County until her passing at the age of 85. Eddie Wisecarver was co-owner of Wisecarver’s Gents Shop, and also worked for Charlestown Races, and the United States Postal Service. Like Anne, he was a lifelong resident of Clarke County until his passing at age 86. The Wisecarver family believes that a scholarship to benefit a nursing student at Laurel Ridge Community College, with preference given to Clarke County residents, is a wonderful way to honor the legacy of their parents, including both their father, who valued education; and their mother, a woman who loved the nursing profession and placed a high value on the importance of a college degree. Son, Stephen, retired as a psychology professor at the College, and daughter, Brenda, is a registered nurse in Richmond.
